Receiving orders
Requests for sample reception may be made by telephone from Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM and on Saturday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon.

Collection, Conservation and Transport of Biological Materials
Samples to be analyzed must be handled according to the conditions specified below:

SERUM

Centrifuge the blood at 3000 RPM for 15 minutes. Remove the serum and conserve it at +4°C. For molecular infectivology analyses, send the sample as soon as possible.

BLOOD + EDTA

Preserve at +4°C and send within 48 hours. Cytogenetic samples must be kept at room temperature until received by the laboratory. They must be sent as soon as possible. Use sodium heparin. For molecular studies, preserve at +4°C.

BLOOD + EPARINA

For cytogenetic investigations the sample must be kept at room temperature until received by the laboratory.Samples must be sent as soon as possible.Use sodium heparium. For molecular studies, preserve at 4°C.

VAGINAL SECRETIONS
URETHRAL SECRETIONS

Use sterile tampons and insert them in a test-tube without any internal solution. Preserve the samples at +4°C for no longer than 24 hours.

LIQUID SALIVA
BRONCHOALVEOLAR EXPECTORATION
GASTRIC FLUID

Preserve the material, even when fluid, in a sterile container at +4°C for no longer than 24 hours after collection.

BIOPSIES

Preserve the tissue in 1 ml of sterile saline solution at +4°C.

URINE

Collect the urine in the morning in a sterile container and preserve at +4°C for no longer than 12 hours.

FECES

Send a fresh sample, preserve at +4° for no longer than 12 hours.

AMNIOTIC FLUID AND CHORIONIC VILLUS SAMPLES

Gather as much matierial as possible to send (at least 20 ml of amniotic liquid and 20 mg of chorionic villus sample) and preserve at +4°C for no longer than 12 hours.

DNA

DNA must be extracted by means of an extraction kit or by use of the "classic" phenol-chloroform method. Minimum quantity: 2 ug. Send together with the spectrophotometric quantification.

When manipulating samples, always use sterile containers, gloves and a disposable pipette.
A personal identification form must be filled in for each sample. Samples can also be marked with an internal identification code (the latter is optional).

For the methods and types of collection necessary to complete the analyses carried out by our Center, consult the information concerning each analysis as described in the presentation section.

COLLECTION OF SAMPLES
Collection of the samples will be carried out by our personnel.

DISPATCHING OF SAMPLES (only for laboratories located outside Rome)
Samples can be sent to our center by express courier. For shipping, the samples must be inserted inside an envelope lined with enough plastic bubble padding to guarantee its protection. The type of sample and the address of the laboratory requesting the analysis must be written on the front of the envelope. For further information, contact our center.

CONSIGNMENT OF RESULTS
Results will be furnished, on request, initially by Fax. The original copy of the analysis will be sent by our courier or Priority Post. For on-line consultation of the results, go to the "On-line Results" section.
